Straps And Backpacks

Straps and Backpacks

Straps are the key to keeping your backpack on your back. They need to be wide and padded to protect your shoulders from the weight of the backpack, so make sure you choose a strap that's comfortable and durable. Adjustable straps are a great way to ensure a correct fit for your backpack. They are easy to use and adjust, allowing you to find the perfect fit.

To keep the pack stable on your back, look for a strap that connects to a sternum (chest) strap or waist belt. These features help distribute the weight to your hips, relieve pressure on your shoulder, and reduce swaying. Waist belts are padded straps that attach to the top of your hip bone, helping redistribute the weight from your shoulders to your hips. This is especially important for outdoor and travel backpacks that are designed to carry large or heavy loads.

Measure both sides of the straps to make sure they are equal in length, as uneven straps can strain your body, including your neck and shoulders. Also, make sure the width between the LITO is evenly distributed so there is an even distribution of weight. When you purchase a new backpack, make sure to measure your torso and take the time to fit it. It's best to get a friend to help with this process, so you can properly fit the straps and the hip belt.

Measuring your torso helps you choose the right size for your backpack because many adult packs are designed for men with long torsos. To make the fit as accurate as possible, use a soft tape measurer and have someone help you to determine the distance from your C7 vertebra to the top of your hip bones, which is called your iliac crest.
